3D Orthodontics in Katowice
The most significant tool of digital orthodontics is an intraoral scanner, which allows obtaining a 3D digital image of patient’s teeth and their mutual relationship. Scanning also gives access to the so-called occlusion map, informing us about the distribution of occlusal forces. It is possible to carry out numerous measurements and analyses on digital models, which enables us to plan the treatment when supplemented with Xray data. Immediate transfer of digital data simplifies communication, e.g. within the treatment planning process.
What is most important for a patient is a visualization of the treatment effects, namely a possibility of obtaining an image of their own teeth as a predicted result of their orthodontic treatment, even before a decision on starting the treatment has been made.
The scanning process is very fast and completely painless and replaces the traditional dental impression that nobody has ever liked. The spatial image received on the scanner screen is an equivalent of the previous gypsum model. Digital diagnostics significantly reduces the amount of X rays, thus making X-ray diagnostics that has a fundamental meaning in orthodontics completely safe for patient’s health. Combined with spatial imaging of tissues by means of the cone beam computed tomography, we obtain complete information about mutual relations between teeth, dental arches, anatomy of roots and their relation with the surrounding bone and neighbouring structures such as sinuses, blood vessels and nerves. This allows precise planning of the orthodontic treatment.
Moreover, such devices as modern CNC moulders or 3D printers are slowly becoming a standard equipment of technical labs that manufacture braces, among other things.
State-of-the-art digital solutions that have appeared in recent years in dentistry have endowed practitioners and patients with a completely new diagnostic quality and a new dimension of treatments. Owing to precision, speed and computing capacities, these techniques have provided us with previously unattainable working tools.
